PRE-COMBO - Designed for students that are 3 to 6 years old who have not entered the first grade. Divided into 3 levels offering a combination of Creative Movement, Tap and Singing. Students will need Ballet and Tap shoes and may wear any color of leotard in Pre-Combo. Our comprehensive lesson plans promote enthusiasm in the performing arts and prepare our students for upper level classes.
PRE-BALLET – Designed for students that are in kindergarten that wish to accelerate their training in ballet. This course is considered to be a supplement to our Pre-Combo classes and we suggest that you continue both courses to maintain their tap skills. Students will need pink ballet shoes, black leotard and pink tights.
BALLET - The most classical form of dance. Creating the basic technique needed for all dancers. Known for gracefulness, strength, traditional turnout, commitment and discipline. Ballet training will be beneficial in any type of organized dance performance. Ballet classes labeled PP are Pre-Professional Classes and require that the students attend three (3) or more ballet classes a week and have permission to attend. Not all of our upper level Ballet classes (90 minute classes) learn choreography for the recital. We will post which Ballet classes will be in recital and a list of students eligible by Dec. 15th.
POINTE
- An extension of Classical Ballet adding the beauty of the Pointe Shoe.
Requires extensive conditioning and training in ballet. Students must be
at least 12 years old.
You must be participating in at least two ballet classes to be eligible
for pre-point and at least three ballet classes to participate in our pointe
classes. Placement for pointe is highly individualized and only the most
dedicated ballet students should consider training on pointe. Not all of
our pointe classes learn choreography for the recital. We will post which
Pointe classes will be in recital and the list of students eligible by Dec.
15th. * By permission only.
TAP - A combination of dance styles in tap shoes. Performer’s Edge has developed a special syllabus for tap and introduces styles of Broadway, Rhythmic, Stomp, Street and more. Tap dancing helps develop the musicality in dancers and will be necessary if one chooses to seek a career in dance.
JAZZ - The contemporary style of dance which includes musical theatre, lyrical, pop and other current styles. Jazz can also follow the popular trends in music, videos, stage, movies and is known for more parallel and aggressive movement.
CONTEMPORARY – Combines many styles of movement and music. The word “Contemporary” relates to the unlimited possibilities and conceptual ideas. These classes will provide another opportunity for our students to develop their technique, strength and performance skills.
LYRICAL – Our lyrical classes provide more ballet training and work to relate this technique to more freedom of movement. Lyrical dance can exhibit lyrics of a song and/or a theme in the music. The class provides another opportunity for our students to develop their technique, strength and interpretive skills.
MODERN – An innovative form of dance that deviates from the “norm” which includes many styles of abstract and traditional movement. The Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre develops and provides instruction in our modern dance classes.
MUSICAL THEATRE - The art of the Broadway Performer. Includes training in dance, vocal production, acting and stage direction. This course helps prepare the student for the process of auditioning and performing in a musical, show choir and other performing mediums.
HIP-HOP
- This course is a contemporary trend and is available to teens, adults
or by permission. This course involves the more current pop styles of music
and movement with more of an “urban or street feel.” Hip-hop
can be very fun and is more of a recreational form of dance.
Students that are seeking theatrical or concert dance experience should
be enrolled in other dance courses. Teen and Adult Jazz 1 is a pre-requisite
for this class.
COMBO CLASS GRADES 1-3 & PRE-TEEN COMBO GRADES 4-5 - A combination class that includes Jazz & Tap. This class is designed for elementary school students that have not been in our Pre-school Program and have little or no experience in dance. Jazz and tap shoes are required. These classes will be eligible to perform a “Jazz Routine” in the recital.
STRETCH, LEAPS AND TURNS - This course is designed for the experienced dancer and provides extra attention to extension, leaping and turning. This will be especially valuable to the more serious dancer and helps in the physical and mental development of the dancer’s body. Students should be enrolled in other dance disciplines before taking this course. N/R = This class will not perform in the recital. By permission only.
PRIVATE LESSONS - Private lessons are by permission of the instructor and may require an evaluation for placement. Dance students must be enrolled in technique classes at Performer’s Edge before considering private lessons and have permission from the instructor. You must initial and sign a “Private Lesson Agreement Form”. Private lessons are paid for in advance and are not refundable. Instructors are not required to make up a private lesson unless the instructor cancels. Each instructor determines if they can “Make Up” a private lesson.
GROUP PIANO – Featuring lessons for Children and Adults. “Key to Music” is our new program that will allow more students to explore the world of music. We will offer an enthusiastic and comprehensive music program that will allow our students to learn the language of music in our new piano lab. Instruments provided by “Piano Solutions” of Carmel
